What a declarant does
- Checks cargo documents and finds discrepancies before filing
- Determines the HS code and customs value of the goods
- Completes and files the cargo customs declaration electronically
- Calculates duties, VAT and fees
- Answers inspector queries and attends inspections
- Hands over the released declaration and the document set
In-house or outsourced declarant
An in-house declarant makes sense with a steady flow of declarations. If shipments are irregular or you are just starting foreign trade, it is simpler to hand clearance to a broker. We have a team of declarants, so one specialist being on leave or ill does not stop your cargo.
How a declarant differs from a customs broker
A declarant is the specialist who prepares and files the declaration. A customs broker is a licensed company that is accountable to customs and to the client, and employs declarants. With us you get both.
